Restrictive cardiomyopathy (RCM) is one of the rarest cardiac disorders, with a very poor prognosis, and heart transplantation is the only long-term treatment of choice. We reported that a Korean family presented different cardiomyopathies, such as idiopathic RCM and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), caused by the same MYBPC3 mutation in different individuals. A 74-year-old male was admitted for the evaluation of exertional dyspnea, palpitations, and pitting edema in both legs for several months. Transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) showed RCM with biatrial enlargement and pericardial effusion. Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) images revealed normal left ventricular chamber size, borderline diffuse left ventricular hypertrophy and very large atria. In contrast to the proband, CMR images showed asymmetric septal hypertrophy of the left ventricle, consistent with a diagnosis of HCM in the proband's two daughters. Of the five heterozygous variants identified as candidate causes of inherited cardiomyopathy by whole exome sequencing in the proband, Sanger sequencing confirmed the presence of a heterozygous frameshift mutation (NM_000256.3c.3313_3314insGG; p.Ala1105Glyfs*85) in MYBPC3 in the proband and his affected daughters, but not in his unaffected granddaughter. There is clinical and genetic overlap of HCM with restrictive physiology and RCM, especially when HCM is combined with severe myocardial fibrosis. Family screening with genetic testing and CMR imaging could be excellent tools for the evaluation of idiopathic RCM.Scirtothrips dorsalis Hood is an invasive and foliar pest of Florida blueberry that reduces plant growth by feeding on new leaf growth. A sampling plan is needed to make informed control decisions for S. dorsalis in blueberry. Fourteen blueberry fields in central Florida were surveyed in 2017 and 2018 after summer pruning to determine the spatial and temporal distribution of S. dorsalis and to develop a fixed-precision sampling plan. A sampling unit of ten blueberry shoots (with four to five leaves each) was collected from one blueberry bush at each point along a 40 × 40 m grid. Field counts of S. dorsalis varied largely ranging from zero to 1122 adults and larvae per sampling unit. Scirtothrips dorsalis had aggregated distribution that was consistent within fields and temporally stable between summers, according to Taylor's power law (TPL) (aggregation parameter, b = 1.57), probability distributions (56 out of 70 sampling occasions fit the negative binomial distribution), Lloyd's index (b &gt; 1 in 94% occasions), and Spatial Analysis by Distance IndicEs (31% had significant clusters). The newly developed fixed-precision sampling plan required 167, 42, seven, or three sampling units to estimate a nominal mean density of 20 S. dorsalis per sampling unit with a precision of 5%, 10%, 25%, or 40%, respectively. In this work we present a novel, switched inductor based acoustic sensor interface featuring a bandpass filter and envelope detector, perform a sensitivity, frequency selectivity, and power consumption analysis of the circuit, and present its design parameters and their qualitative influence on circuit characteristics. The purpose of this study was to investigate sports injuries in younger (U9-U11) and older (U12-U13) children playing soccer at an elite level, analyzing potential anthropometric and maturity risk factors. A total of 88 elite soccer players aged 9-13 years were investigated. Weight, stature, and sitting height were measured at the start and at the end of the competitive season, computing the relative growth velocities. Additional body composition parameters were taken during a second survey. Maturity offset was calculated using predictive equations based on anthropometric traits such as years from age at peak height velocity (YPHV). Injuries suffered during the competitive season were recorded. Maturity and some anthropometric characteristics were significantly different according to the presence or absence of injuries among the players. Multiple logistic regression revealed that YPHV, body mass index (BMI), and calf muscle area were the factors most significantly correlated with injuries. Players with increased BMI, with decreased calf muscle area, and who were closer to their peak height velocity, were at a higher risk of injury. Findings showed that a monitoring program of anthropometric characteristics taking into account the maturational stage needs to be developed to prevent injuries.This study aimed to investigate the salivary characteristics and individual daily living patterns in Korean children aged 12 years and evaluate their relationships according to the significant caries (SiC) index. The study sample consisted of 52 healthy Korean children. The subjects were allocated into a low caries-affected (low CA) group and a high caries-affected (high CA) group, according to the SiC index. Children underwent a standardized oral examination, and parents completed the questionnaires. Stimulated salivary samples were collected to evaluate the salivary pH, salivary flow rate, and salivary levels of Mutans streptococci (MS) and Lactobacilli (LB). The low CA group did not significantly differ from the high CA group for salivary flow rate and salivary pH. However, there were significant differences in salivary MS levels between the two groups (p less then 0.05).
